This policy covers themarginengine.xyz. It is written to be read, not to be survived, so it is short and it says what actually happens.
Margin is a growth-systems consultancy based in Sydney, Australia. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
What we collect
Two things, and nothing else.
- What you type into a form. The apply form and the leak-audit form ask for your name, email address, business name, industry, a revenue band, a rough monthly enquiry count, which engine you need most, and optionally a description of where you think you are leaking. Every field is information you choose to give us.
- Basic usage data. Which pages you viewed, roughly where in the world you are, what kind of device you used, and how you arrived — including the referring site and any campaign tags on the link you clicked. We use this to understand which pages are useful. We do not build advertising profiles and we do not sell it.
What we do not collect
- Payment or card details. There is nothing to buy on this site.
- Government identifiers, health information, or anything else the Privacy Act treats as sensitive.
- Anything from anyone we can tell is under 18. This is a site for business owners.
Why we collect it
To reply to you, to prepare the audit or proposal you asked for, and to keep a record of the conversation so the next person you speak to is not starting from nothing. That is the whole purpose.
If you gave us your details to get a leak audit, we will also send you the audit and follow up about it. We may write to you about Margin's work. Every email we send has an unsubscribe path, and asking us to stop by reply works just as well.
Who else sees it
We are a small operation and we run on other people's software. The services below process your information on our behalf, under their own security and privacy terms. We do not sell, rent, or trade your information to anyone, ever, and we do not share it with other clients or prospects.
- Airtable — stores enquiry records (our customer database).
- Resend — sends the confirmation email and our notification.
- Vercel — hosts this website and records basic traffic data.
- PostHog — product analytics on page views and site usage.
- Botpress — powers the chat assistant, if you choose to use it. What you type into the chat is processed by it.
- Google Search Console — reports which search queries lead to this site. It never receives your form submissions.
Where it is stored
Some of these providers store data outside Australia, including in the United States and the European Union. By submitting a form you accept that your information may be handled overseas by the processors listed above. We choose providers that publish their security practices and we keep the number of them small on purpose.
How long we keep it
Enquiry records are kept while there is a live conversation and for two years after the last contact, so we have context if you come back. Usage analytics are kept for up to two years in aggregate. After that both are deleted.
Cookies and tracking
This site sets a small number of first-party cookies and browser-storage entries so that analytics can tell one visit from another, and so that if you arrived from a campaign link we know which one. There is no third-party advertising pixel on this site. Blocking cookies in your browser does not stop you using anything here.
Your rights
You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email hello@themarginengine.xyz and we will action it within 30 days, usually much sooner. You do not need to give a reason and it costs nothing.
If you think we have mishandled your information, tell us first at hello@themarginengine.xyz so we can fix it. If we do not resolve it, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
If something goes wrong
If a breach happens that is likely to cause you serious harm, we will tell you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, as the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme requires.
Changes
If this policy changes materially we will update the date below. We will not quietly broaden what we do with your information and then rely on you not re-reading this page.
